Genewel Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Wonju Plant

Genewel has begun construction on a new cGMP-compliant manufacturing facility in Wonju Enterprise City as part of its strategy to expand globally.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on May 29. The plant will span 11,541 square meters and is expected to have an annual production capacity exceeding KRW 100 billion.

Genewel plans to complete construction by 2026 and aims to achieve KRW 35 billion in overseas sales by 2030. The company will invest KRW 50 billion in the facility, which will feature advanced production systems that comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and European Medicines Agency (EMA) standards—enhancing its ability to meet international demand.

The new plant will consolidate existing medical device production lines currently located in Seongnam and Hwaseong. It will also introduce automation technologies to improve production and logistics efficiency.

Leveraging the new facility, Genewel plans to expand its medical device business into overseas markets. The company will accelerate the global rollout of key products including WELPASS®, a pain-reduction drug delivery kit, and Guardix®, an anti-adhesion barrier, with an initial focus on Europe and Australia. It also plans to increase the online presence of Medifoam®, its advanced wound dressing product, via global e-commerce platforms.

In addition, the company is actively pursuing business diversification. Genewel will expand its derma-cosmetics business by exporting its skincare brand healmize® to North America and entering the aesthetics market with the launch of hyaluronic acid fillers.
